Edinburgh's theatre productions have gathered worldwide acclaim partly due to the fringe festival which promotes all of the arts and draws in visitors from all corners of the globe. Other festivals attract people to the wide variety of theatres and touring companies all around Edinburgh.
The Royal Lyceum Theatre which is just off the bustling Lothian Road has productions ranging from Shakespeare to newer Scottish playwrights. The King's Theatre with its domed ceiling and red velvet seats is the perfect setting for dramatic theatre productions. Scotland's new writing theatre, The Traverse Theatre supports new and original playwrites.
